Education Maintenance Allowance

If your child was born between 1st March 1999 and 30th Sep[tember 2002 then he/she may be eligible for Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) if staying on at school.

If your child was born between 1st October 2002 and 28th February 2003 your child may be eligible for EMA from January 2017.

EMA is money paid by the government to help encourage young people to stay on at school. It is dependent on family income and if successful pupils must maintain 100% attendance and a high standard of punctuality and positive behaviour (to maintain 100% attendance any absence must be accompanied by a note or telephone call detailing the reason form absence. If pupils have more than 5 periods of absence then they may not get their EMA for any periods of absence following this)

 

If your child was born between 1st MArch 1999 and 30th September 2002 the application form should be sent to Glasgow City Council no later than 30th September.

If your child was born between 1st October 2002 and 28th February 2003 the application must be sent to Glasgow City Council no later than 28th February 2018.

Once the application has been processed a learning agreement will be sent out and will have to be signed by the student, parent or carer and the school. If the student does not adhere to the standards of attendance, timekeeping and/or behaviour then their payments may be witheld. Payment will not start until the learning agreement has been signed and recieved by GCC.
