Overview
Science is an important part of our world and we use its applications every day in our lives at work, at leisure and in the home. Through learning in science, young people develop their interest in, and understanding of, the living, material and physical world.

Facilities
We have a purpose built classroom with a traditional teaching area with tables in front of the smart board and a large experiment table which has electric and gas supply. The class also has 5 computers to aid research and investigations.
What your child will learn
In years s1-s3 your child will have 2 periods of science per week. Pupils follow a broad general education using programmes of work at 2nd level based upon the experiences and outcomes from Curriculum for Excellence.

In S3 your child will be given the opportunity to choose science as a subject in S4. The course they will be studying will be Environmental science at National 3 level. This will be a 2 year course which enables learners to develop an understanding of environmental issues. Learners will investigate key areas of the living environment, the Earth and its resources.
How your child will learn
In science your child will be given the opportunity to carry out a number of experiments. The results of the experiments will be recorded and then the results will be discussed individually and as a class. Throughout the lessons pupil progress is assessed by questioning, teacher observation and an end of topic assessment.
Self assessment is promoted throughout learning with the use of pupil records of individual learning goals where pupils assess their progress using the traffic lights colours.
Wider links
In Science we have a number of opportunities to enhance the learning with trips out with the school.
